Referencing 1 - The Basics

You may know that you need to reference quoted work.

But did you know you also need to cite paraphrases, too?

To reference a quotation from a text source, you need to add a reference where you talk about it in your work.


Program Steps

In your text section, the 'Add Reference' button will be available.

Click it to add your source material's details.

Explore different tabs to see what else you can cite.


Go to the Bibliographic References tab, then click the 'New...' button.

A new reference will be added to the text, and your Reference List will be created with your blank source.

A good rule of thumb is to assume that your reader has no contact with you at all.


Print Sources and Materials

Select its most applicable type, and fill in as much information about it as you can find.

From the information you make available, would they be able to find and verify that your source states what you say it does?

Use the 'Quote' field to input a selected quotation from that source.


When in doubt: ask your organisation for more details.
