Referencing 2 - Digital Resources

These written FAQs are similar to the Essay Writer videos, with additional descriptions of button icons, placement, etc.

Referencing 2 - Digital Resources

See the previous post on how to add a simple source:

Program Steps

Copy the web address into your clipboard.

And paste it into your text, where you'll need the citation.

Answer 'yes' when prompted whether you want to paste as a reference.

Now hold the control key and click the new citation to open it.

The 'Reference Type', and 'Reference Data' fields are already set.

Enter 'Author' as 'Last Name, comma, First Initial, full-stop.'

Use the organisation name (in the 'Last Name' field,) if no author is listed.

Digital Sources and Materials

The main difference between physical and digital sources is the 'URL' field, or web address.

But 'Access Date' is also important, in case of edits between reading and submitting.

The more information you include, the easier it will be for others to find.

(For students: 'Easier for your lecturer to find' can mean better marks for your bibliography!)

Metadata from a web page may be general, and used across the web site.

Therefore, it's especially important to confirm all copy-and-pasted details.

Review how the in-text citations and listed references appear: in 'File' and 'Print Preview...'

Let us know how you find referencing.

We're always happy to learn about your success.

Search Keywords: digital, online, web, resource, reference list, referencing, cite, citation, source, bibliography, works cited
